Is the mystery finally solved? Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitteror rather its real reasons, continue to be debated on the Internet – while for now this extremely expensive acquisition has tended to reduce the value of one of the most important social networks in terms of the number of users around the world.

In his latest book Fight for the birdsBloomberg business columnist Kurt Wagner looks back – with supporting anecdotes and internal documents – at what apparently motivated Elon Musk to take the plunge. If these revelations are true, the entrepreneur is portrayed as impulsive and (at least in this particular case) short-sighted.

How a private jet story and frustration led Elon Musk to spend $44 billion

The author reveals some of the good things about his book in a series of tweets. The most interesting thing is undoubtedly this amazing coincidence. In January 2022, Elon Musk wrote to then Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal to complain about an account that was bothering him at the time.

@ElonJet actually tracked all the movements of Elon Musk’s private jet. Parag Agrawal then refused to block the account – but at the end of the same month of January, Elon Musk began buying Twitter shares for the first time, setting up the hostile takeover bid that would take place a few months later.

Another interesting detail: a week after the takeover, Elon Musk was angry when he saw this Beginning of a bloodlust for advertising contracts. And the entrepreneur called the head of Twitter management to ask him why.

The manager then shows him his latest tweet, in which Elon Musk threatens advertisers with nothing less “Thermonuclear War”. The manager then adds “You don’t want to declare war on advertisers”. To which Elon Musk would have replied “Oh, I would make war on them…because I win them, wars.”

Another amazing move: When the head of the social network’s advertising agency, Elon Musk, explained that some Twitter users “started to bully advertisers” into withdrawing from the social network, Elon Musk snapped and then allegedly asked Yoel Roth, the head of the group’s “Trust and Security” department, to block all affected accounts.

Elon Musk would have justified himself by calling these hostile actions by users “Blackmail” : “Blackmail is now against our rules”. Fight for the bird will be available in its untranslated version from February 20, 2024 in American bookstores, but also online on platforms such as Amazon.

  • Elon Musk may have bought Twitter on a whim, says a book by a Bloomberg columnist.
  • The then CEO Parag Agrawal’s refusal to block an account after his private jet was said to be the trigger for the whole story.
  • Revelations that also shed light on how the flight of advertisers to the platform could have been prevented.
